Souteastern Desert area, was the former middle and Southern Silkroad. there scattered smalll oasis and villages along the road. Cherchan , Charklik, Niya,Lop,xiaowan,wulu ,and jingjue cities were once very prosperous cities along the ancient route.They were gifted with the transportation ,became melting pots of both oriental and western culture.The historic relic such as ancient coins,old woolen textile, silk pieces unearthed ,show that this kind of cultre had reached certain standard.SOme famous people like Banchao, faxian,monk XUanzang all left their footprint here.As eraly as 102BC,the Han government started to have their construction corps to help the locals to cultivate in this area.Till 60 BC, there had been 7000 soldiers barracked here.Nowadays Cherchan, once the residential place for ancient Qiang people, they had master the skill of mining the iron ore as early as 1-2 century BC.They learned how to make weapons out of that also, they are among the earliest groups who knew how to use iron in the world.

The Middle and Southern Silk road started to impovorish after the 4th century.At that time , dust storm and approaching desert forced people to leave their hometown.The oasis vanished, cities buried deeply in the sand.And this area step by step became a forgotten land .

Thos e who refused to leave their homeland,most of them moved to the foot of the Kunlun Mountain where there are some small oasis.In the past 1000years,they had very isloated life , completely seperated from the outside world.The exotic culture and folk custom as well as unique landscape attract a lot of t9ourists coming to this area.
